Say it isn't so! I love the comments following the article:

"Big shock! Scroogling all over the place. To Google, anyone not paying for traffic is a spammer!"

All of this smells of desperation on Matt's part, as if he repeats the sames BS over and over again it must be true. I hope Google makes it all pay for play to give added incentive to a new Search Engine offering!

Seems like Cutts is going to get succeeded in what he's doing.
I predict by the end of 2014 there will be no public (including being advertised "private" as I see a lot now) google-oriented backlink networks besides SAPE. Half of them will die (the best, working part) due to being manually penalized by google one by one. Another half due to webmasters being too scared to buy links to anything but doorways or other churn'n'burn sites. And for such sites links from hacked sites would be always better. It is too easy to bust any public network if anyone has a desire to do this. You need just a couple of hundred bucks and some monthly paid cheap staff. Google has plenty of both.
Bulk link sellers, blogs network owners etc - do begin looking for the new job now while you have some time.

Black SEO wont die for sure. It's time to switch to ol'good link exchange from the times when internet was young and to small private[SUP]1[/SUP] satellite networks. Back to innocence boys and girls, that's it.

[SUP]1[/SUP] private - intended for or restricted to the use of a particular person, group, or class (Merriam-Webster dictionary)

    WHAAAAAAAAAAAATT??
    thats just panic talking there.

I am one of the Whiter Hat guys here on BHW if I do say so myself and even though I am very cautious I still realize that Google does not have the manpower to check all sites one by one, which is what you are suggesting. The best they can do is what they are doing right now IMO and to be quite honest, they are not doing it all that well.

Case in point- Many search results are crap, Neg SEO works, They rolled out a disavow tool ... etc.. All of these point to failures with the algorithm period. If it were working correctly there would be no issues like I just described.

In the meantime they have to address issues as they come but short of hiring 100,000 employees or more they can never review every site even if they just focused on the USA alone.

I agree almost 100%. Two big networks taken down in one week. It's too easy for them to ID the networks these days. Small private networks will fly under the radar, and the fluid nature of SAPE makes it extremely hard to take down. But these public link networks are just too dangerous. I just had to cancel XXXXX b/c they were using blatant duplicate content. How people can be so stupid these days is insane to me. If anything I'm going more blackhat after what's happened the past few weeks, no point in even trying to be middle of the line anymore.

Nope, I don't suggest that. In contrary, I suggest everyone to build their own satellite network precisely because, as you said, google won't check all sites one by one, except maybe for a subset of top search queries.

But public networks are already well known as they are advertised on forums, and there are really just so much of them. Google has a dedicated command to do this job, they easily can buy a package or two of each network and reverse engineer the network of donor sites by finding a pattern. Pattern could be found easily - if you have a set of recipient sites which are known to have bought links from a particular network, you can see other links pointed to these sites, find an intersection, and so on. Not much can be done to counter that. Negative SEO - yes it will work, but not as much as people afraid of, it can (ow will be) be countered by disavow tool and anyway, google will have enough sites for its' SERPS even if half of Internet will be negative seoed.

I don't see why everyone hates Fat Slutts so much you should all be proud of our daughter because she is making this whole SEO game much much easier. I watch my daughter with awe as she helps her father rank with less links and much less work. I knew she would do me proud one day. Love you sweetie x

Matt Cutts is head of Google's propaganda division. He tosses all kinds of BS out there so that we talk about it in forums, seo blogs and elsewhere. The BS that spews from Cutts' mouth is an attempt by Google to confuse webmasters and change the topic of discussion from recent events such as Google being fined $1.2 million by a Spanish privacy watchdog and Canada going after Google for antitrust violations. Good companies don't get this kind of press, but evil doers most certainly do.

Google is rolling out fiber lines in Texas so that people can use their broadband to connect to the internet, go to YouTube to watch videos and search for things on Google. People can connect to the internet with their mobile device running the Google owned Android operating system. And when these people are online, they can click ads that Google controls 1/3 of globally. When it comes down to it, the main topic of discussion should be how Google has grabbed control over so much of the internet and why no government agencies are calling for them to be broken up.

Most of the excesses that current Google employees enjoy, such as high salaries and extraordinary perks, come at a cost of Google consuming many small business jobs in the United States and beyond. The more small businesses that die in organic search, the more Adwords customers Google will have and profits will rise. Google, for all-intensive purposes, has become the internet's version of cancer - growing uncontrollably and damaging everything in its path.

Don't forget that Google invests in many other companies. Google Ventures financially backs 225 companies, many of which are taken to IPO. These Google backed companies do great in Google's search engine and Google profits directly from their successes.

Google's Internet Association is a group that claims to be the "unified voice of the internet economy." Small businesses are not included in their elite membership, but many of the companies in this "cartel" do really well in Google's search engine. Combined, they also control most of the internet traffic.

If anything, Google's actions over the last 1-2 years are helping ordinary people see Google for exactly what they are - an out of control monopoly. Let it strengthen your resolve to do what you personally can to see that Google does not take over the internet entirely. Whether you write a government agency/politician to complain or remove Google's Analytics spyware code from a website, doing something positive is better than sitting around with a "broken spirit" like Google hopes to accomplish.

    Happy Holidays! :)

I'm not too worried about his personal level of satisfaction. Blackhat SEOs need to know this. There's no denying Google has been making things pretty tough lately. IMO people should go pure whitehat using their own PBN or go straight black hat, but I think it's dangerous to ride the middle line (which many people here are doing).

the guy gets paid to do a job - so I guess the publicity is necessary in keeping with that.

I think its childish - but that's the way the world works.
