Farcast's Instagram Journey to 100k!​

Hello BHW! My name is Farcast, and I've made it my goal to grow an existing Instagram account to 100,000 followers. I will do this via the old mass follow/unfollow method. I will not be giving away the niche of the account for security purposes, but I will say that it is, as some people like to say, "saturated." I, however, don't view this as an obstacle; I see it as an opportunity. Because of the many users that are interested in the niche, I believe that I can use it to my advantage.

As I type this, my account is two days old. My journey is going to act as a personal experiment, to discover if I can reach 100k followers using my methods on a freshly made account. If I get banned, so be it. But I'm determined to work as hard as I can to be successful.

My hope is to soon be able to rely on pure organic growth and to slowly be able to ween the account off mass following/unfollowing. This will take time, though, and I am respectful of that.

As far as monetization goes, I feel like I have more than enough time to think about what I'm going to do. I'm still pretty new to Instagram (I'm far more well-versed in Twitter marketing and monetization). So, for the mean time, I'm going to focus just on growing the account.

I will not be posting the number of users I'm following each day because I am constantly following/unfollowing, and it would be meaningless. BUT, I will be updating the thread daily with my statistics to keep myself motivated and hopefully inspire others to start their own journeys.

I'm excited to see where this project goes from here, and I hope you all take interest and decide to follow along! Please feel free to ask questions and leave comments for me! I'm eager to see what you all have to say.

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not :p If it isn't, I don't think Instagram will be dead anytime soon. I agree that there are many journeys having to do with Instagram here on BHW at the moment, but I think it's a good thing. In my opinion, more journeys equals more engagement. Take Twitter for instance.. People have been milking it for years now--including me--and there is still so much potential with it. Even after the Android follow glitch of 2013 or whatever year it was, people continue to have success with it. :)

Thanks! :) I'm using a little bot I created, nothing too complicated. I might invest in FL later on!
 
Good luck, keep numbers low for a week or so, since it's a fresh account then you can start to slowly increase daily limits.
I'll be following so keep it updated :)

Thanks for the comment! Yeah.. I've already been "temporarily blocked" from following a few times now. I'm still unfamiliar with the whole blocking thing. Is there a certain number of times you can be blocked before a ban?

I'm going to be posting my updates at around midnight (12:00am) PST from now on, just a heads up! As always, thanks to everyone for the positive feedback. It helps a lot, and I really do appreciate it. :)
 
Good Luck OP! It's smart to use custom bot as it won't get detected anytime soon.

Just try not to constantly keep getting temp bans, it will lead to ban soon.
In the past, i've gotten maybe 4-5 temp bans then a permanent ban, so keep it safe
 

Update 1/11/16!​

Today has been a very successful day in terms of follower gains.

That said, I want to discuss the usage of hashtags. On every picture I've uploaded since I created the account, I've commented about 15-20 hashtags that are related to the picture. I am noticing that I'm getting a nice number of likes on each picture, but the majority of them are from users that aren't following me. This tells me two things: 1) People are liking my pictures from the hashtag and not actually enjoying them, and 2) A lot of likes are from other botted accounts that are auto-liking hashtag-specific pictures. I think this is fine, though, because I will need many likes in order to eventually end up on the popular (or.. explore?) page.

I'm also worried, as I've stated previously, about the temporary blocks I've been receiving. I've been following pretty aggressively (~1000/day) for the past few days, and I've gotten "blocked" from following like three times. I'm not sure if more of these will lead to a permanent ban or if I'll just keep getting blocked with no other issues. I've heard both responses by a few people. I think I'm going to keep following the same amount per day but spread it out over a much longer period of time. We'll see what happens.

I'm thinking I will include the present follower count as well as the last four updates' follower counts every time I make an update. This will allow you all as well as me to easily see my progress thus far.

Only three days in, and I've already learned so much! Of course, I still have a long way to go. But I'm not stopping! :) OH.. AND! I'm absolutely loving all the feedback I've received, so keep it coming!

You have new accounts, I suggest not to follow/unfollow aggressively. That's what causing your temp bans. I sure don't want you to get banned for good.

Anyway, so far so good with the stats! :)

I agree haha! How much do you suggest I follow per day? Like ~500-600?
 
I had work all day and didn't get to do a lot of following so far today. I'm going to do as much as I can now, and expect an update at midnight PST! :)
