Fans or Friends?

What is better for a small business to have Friends or Fans? I see benefits in both and i have not messed around with the Fan based pages and i am not sure if it is the way to go. Which one will bring in more traffic?

as far as I know any business should be a page, making a profile that represents a non-real person is an excuse for ban in facebook.

Of course you need friends, becouse if you only have fans, and your account is not like a real person, you get banned.

A lot of freinds can get you banned but fans are safer..

Not really many people likes Farm ville invite page / groups you can easily get fans or group friends.

if you have something to offer like Free iPad / iphones but in there is a cpa lead link you get money+people

Definitely a fan page.

Plus a lot of profiles you'll create adding friends every day with the programs in the download section. A different IP for each profile or fb is going to bitch when you add people. All you have to do is to keep "suggesting" your fan page to these "new friends" on each profile. I had experience with facewizard and it kicks ass, I'm not affiliated or anything, only first-hand experience.

how do you get friend adders to work with proxies? i have friendblasterpro and it wont start when i have proxies configured in the IE... is this general with friend adders or just with friendblaster?

FW has and dunno if it's in the DNS list, but copies are around on other forums. Oh make sure you get/buy version 2.x or anything later than 1.5.

Sure, I'm glad to share. I'm pretty heavy with facebook and use facewizard almost exclusively since it does everything I need for me and my clients. The method is simple though, facewizard is just a killer app that automates the whole thing. Here's the "manual" breakdown:

1. you need to do is to create a lot of fb accounts uploading a nice picture, some crappy info, interests, favorite movies, whatever else as if you were a legit owner of that personal account. Repeat for number of fb accounts FROM different IPs.

You can use ANY IP but make sure that when you log into a certain fb account you use an IP located in the SAME COUNTRY or FB will require a tedious visual verification that you'll fail since you don't actually know the random "friends" you just added (see 2.)..

2. start adding friends for each fb account every day. FB became a little stricter in the last month, so you need to go to a targeted fan page and reload the page because it won't show more than 6 fans at a time... But they're randomly chosen so every time you reload they're different.

A few words about the FB limits adding people. I read a lot of opposite thoughts and tested myself as well. I -presonally- wouldn't recommend trying to add more than 20 friends a day PER account. Just increase the number of fake fb accounts instead of the number of friends per day and you'll be able to have an army in a relatively short time.

3. Create a fan page for your niche/product

4. Suggest (there's a funny link under the pic of the fan page..) the fan page to all of your new friends on all the fb accounts you created. Hopefully it'll go viral and even if it doesn't the percentage of people "liking" random fan pages is pretty good on fb.

Once your "friends" have liked your fan page they'll receive your updates directly on their profiles. It's like a web 2.0 mailing list that people opted in.

Facewizard automates all that. One day they should pay me for all this free advertising lol... Hope it helps somebody!

All that sounds for me great, is nice to know the opinnion from someone that is actually using that kind of programs.

I've been looking at FBAP and FaceWizard, obviously thought about FBAP because the price which is quite less than FaceWizard.

What I don't get 100% is how you manage all the IP? Restart the router, use a proxy?

Speaking from very recent experience:

AVOID FRIENDS LIKE THE PLAUGE

I got to less than 100 before FB hounded me down with security road blocks and eventually a message that was along the lines of "add one more friend and we'll terminate your account"!

Stick to fans. However, use other accounts to launch the invites.

Also, make sure your fan page looks legit.

- about business
- low # of links except those that are really critical / relevant
- pictures of products, services, etc.

I'm working on totally white hat business pages for client's and facebook harasses me about it someway almost daily. I'm not promoting with any spammy methods either... It's really getting on my nerves.

No one mentioned this yet, however although I do believe a profile is crucial for your legit fan page, FB limits you to 5,000 friends per profile/account. So you would definitely want to start a fan page because there is no limit to the fans your page can accumulate.

Nice post bro! However, I have to disagree with you on being able to login with any IP just as so long the country is the same. Please do not get me wrong, I am not saying that this is not working for you; but this is definitely not the case for everyone. If you are connected through the internet through a PC Wireless card, DSL, or any other service that uses dynamic IPs, then that is why you might have come to this conclusion about the whole country ordeal. However, if this is truly the case (you are using Dynamic IPs), it is not because you are using IPs from the same country, it is because you are using IPs from the same ISP, and most likely from the same C Class. However, I have found out that just by using the same IPs from a certain ISP, even with a totally different IP (forget the C Class octet), you will not be roadblocked. However, keep in mind that these IPs all belong to the same ISP and are located within the same city.

You are talking about groups. They do allow you to E-mail all of your members, but after you achieve 5,000 members, FB yanks this option off of the table. With fan pages, there is no limit; however, you can only send your fans "Updates" which do not land in their Inbox like a group mass-message would. It lands in the subfolder that exists solely for the purpose of updates. Furthermore, people can "unsubscribe" from your future fan page updates. So yes, a fan page is a lot like managing an E-mail list, but you will not be hitting their Inbox. I am not sure if a fan decides to unsubscribe from your fan page's future updates that it will automatically "unlike" the fan page for them. It might just disallow you from sending them further updates. Maybe someone with a little bit more experience on this topic can elaborate on exactly what unsubscribing from a fan page's updates really does. In fact, I am very interested to know the answer to this question. If no one is able to answer it, I will test it out myself and post back with the results!

@NeoGeneration So FaceWiz has proxy support PER account (a simple database linking account <-> proxy) and starting from ver 2.0 you can also set it to create profiles automatically. Getting different public IPs is generally tricky unless you are on some sort of dial-up or "similar" kind of network and then as observed by @Money_Man you'll probably be on the same class C, so I'd definitely stick to proxies.

As a general note, you can "proxify" most programs on all major OSs with the poor man's method of using tor even if the app itself doesn't have support for proxies. But FaceWizard has it, so no prob other apps I dunno. And there are other "socksifying" solutions too intercepting the net APIs called... But this is beyond the scope of the question.

@Money_Man I DIDN'T share anything. I just pointed out that -like 99.9% of sw- a simple google search might yield to a result on different forums.

Good point about the IPs, though. That certainly reinforces the idea of using proxies belonging to different C classes and possibly different cities, but on the same Country. My experience is that if two subsequent logins come from IPs belonging to 2 different countries facebook will ask you to verify those silly faces you previously added randomly...
