Hello everyone. I've seen alot of questions about Facebook Fan Pages and Groups; what you can do with this, what you can do with that.
I hope this helps to clear things up, i will have missed alot of things out, so if you want to post anything else, feel free to and i will add it to this thread.
With a group, the maximum amount of people you can have in your group is 5,000 before you can no longer message them all. Before 5,000 members you can message all of them, this could be an offer you have, getting them to invite their friends - anything! Each of the members will receive a private message just as if you was private mailing them.
Once you reach 5,000 members you can no longer message all the members, so you may see the group as useless. You can still post on the wall, which people will see, but i don't think this comes up as a notification.
Groups take longer to invite members, because when you click invite you have to select all your friends, and then send invitation. Although you can use the javascript code, this still takes a while. This can be a disadvantage as members might not be bothered about spending time inviting their friends.
With a fan page, there is no maximum amount of people you can have before you can't message your members. You can always message your members no matter how many members you have. This too will arrive a private message. I believe that when a group posts something (an update) on their wall, this shows up as a notification, unlike the groups, so all members will see the latest posts the group makes.
Fan page's take less time to invite friends. When you click "suggest to friends", you can use the javascript code, and then one button sends the invite. A new page doesn't open (but a groups invite feature opens a new page) so you can simply click invite. This can be an advantage against groups as members don't get redirected to another page to invite their friends - its quicker.
Of course the invite features don't really make much of a difference, i just thought i'd point it out because some members may be put off inviting their friends if they have to go to another page and inviting friends is slightly more confusing on a group. But still, not much difference.
