What do you guys think about providing fake registrant info (name and other details) when registering a domain? I've registered a couple ones in the past, although godaddy has my real info. I haven't had any problems with that yet. Plus, I didn't have to pay for domain privacy. Have you guys tried doing that?

I use fake info.

Use a prepaid card if your doing anything extreme.

On some of my domains I still have fake info, but at domains which are making good money - are ranking well I tend to change the info to real + use whois

I used to put fake info on some of my domains, but after reading some scary stories about loosing domains because of this I stopped doing it.

I really think it depends on what you are planning on using the domain for. If it is a long term project that you plan on investing a lot of time, energy, and money into I would not use fake info as you can lose the domain if you get caught. If it is a domain that you are using and abusing and do not care what happens long term than go ahead and use fake info.

Why to hide real data? If you have long term white project I would indicate my real data.

why not. if you do not want to pay for cloacking, then give it the false name.

I used to do that as well , and it works. As mentioned if shit hits the fan you might loose the domain. That's why I use a chinese registrar nowdays for my blackhat sites ( bulletproof and anonymous )

Maybe because you are doing adult websites and you doesn't want your family to know about it ;)

Use fakes for throwaways and real data for long-term domains.

If you have a lot of domains, say 100+, consider registering an offshore company in a country that honours privacy with incorporation. But be prepared for 1K of extra expense. Per year. And the fact that their common owner is obvious. Like with real data...

dont do it with fake daddy... bc they will spot check the info... and have someone call u and try to verify the address... and send a letter too the address too.. and if u dont respond they will automatically force the $9.99 privacy crap on u and if u disagree with them they will repossess ur domain.. i will never fall for their .99 cent scam domains again... STAY AWAY FROM GO DADDY ALL TOGETHER!!!! THEY ARE SCAMMERS!!!

I've bought a few domains at godaddy for .99 (.com's), the I just moved it to an other registrar
