Hello,
Does pinterest allow to pin an image that does not exist on the landing page? I found a lot of people promoting their websites by doing this, save the popular images and pin with their url, will this cause the sites to be baned?

Yes you can but host it on other image share site.

why I need to host it on other site? can't I upload it to my server or upload direct to pinterest and set the source url to my site?

No pinterest not allow you to pin pics which are not on your site.

If the image becomes popular enough, it could get flagged by the users. And if you use a popular image, Pinterest may automatically change the source to the original domain. Either way, it could leave a black mark on your account/site.

I think the Pinterest allows to pin images that are not on landing pages but there are some restrictions that are given by Pinterest terms and conditions. You must have to know about that.
