So have you heard about the recent $4.99 domains promotion from 1and1? Course you did and I did too and bought 3 domains from them right away.

Did you know that when you purchase a domain, they don't charge you immediately? I mean, they wait like 2 weeks, create an invoice and then they charge you.

To my great surprise, my invoice's total was $26.97 for them 3 domains. That's right! It's $8.99 per domain instead of $4.99.

I sent them email and waited 48 hours, no reply but they DID charge me the $26.97 on my credit card.

What if I purchased like 10 domains? I would be charged $89.90 instead of $49.90!

When I was ordering the domains, a total of $4.99 for each domain WAS shown and not $8.99!!! WTF!?

I didn't know that large incorporated companies could be so....well idk-can't find a word foul enough to describe them.

maybe they offered you some extra stupid services like godaddy is doing for 1$ domains

I ordered three too but I was lucky cause they had me waiting for so long before the domains were even created I canceled the bill on paypal. So they can't charge me. Now apparently they made the domains but I canceled my bill so I don't want them no more :D

next year they would charge u $20-25 per domain.. no jokes... happened before.. move the domain away from them asap..!

Thought so! I'll be moving them domains somewhere safe after the grace period.

Nope, it's the 3 domains. $8.99 per domain, clearly shows on the invoice.

LOL that was lucky. Anyway, I bought linux hosting a couple months ago from them with my credit card (no Paypal) and I used the same account to purchase the domains.

Hosting really sucks there and pretty much all of their services I guess!

Not trying to harp on anyone, but this is why people need to start reading the fine print. That big ass terms of service thing that you always agree to without reading it, that is what needs to be read in order for you to understand why they are offering this promotional price...

Sure they will give you a $4.99 domain name for the first year, but after the first year, they are going to charge you $20-25 a year for the domain, most likely automatically to your credit card...

The same thing is being done on those **************** sites... Sure, you can get your credit report for free, if you sign up with another service, probably free for 7 days, and when you forget to cancel, they charge you...

Nothing is being done illegally, they aren't scamming you, people just aren't reading the fine print...

Email and ask before you buy. Any problems you have the email to as proof.

Looks like you didn't read/understand my OP!

Anyway, they emailed me back and offered me $12 refund. So, I'm happy for now.

It's not a matter of reading the fine print, it's a matter of 1&1 sucking ass.

i've been with 1and1 for years, no problem here. Not sure why you are though.

I left Godaddy. Cheap stuffs are not ALWAYS good. Never in my life went to the 1and1 website. I am now with Namecheap. Safe with no surprises.

I was going to suggest them actually.

I think some people are missing the point, it's one thing to get caught out by a company charging you over the odds for renewals but in this instance it appears that it is a billing error. I would contact them and ask what's going on. Re-read the website and the T&Cs first though. Make sure you know what's on offer.

I never trusted 1and1, my friend used it and had many issues with them, support sucks as I know.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here,

Well, maybe I am the first one that will say, No, this is not true,
I been with 1and1 more then 2 years, I use 1and1 and hostgator.

Of course, it happen to me too, you see a promotion, then you go and buy
domains from them, they always have domain promotions.

The thing is I never contact them by email, always by phone, and in the next tow days my money is refunded.
It happen to me just week ago, for the same $4.99 promotion, I called them and they refunded the difference which is $4.

I have always used phone support with 1and1 and never had issues. Their email support works but they lag to respond. So in that aspect I'm happy. However their hosting is laggy compared to other hosts I use.

If you ever want to cancel the domain have fun. I canceled 4 domains last year and had to fax a bunch of shit to them.

yeap, bought 2 domains, they've charged me 8.99. I had to buy them anyways, but I'm gonna give them a call & have a chat about this, because it's ridiculous. Not that I care about the $10.

1and1 is slow as shit for anything to get done. The servers are slower than donkeys walking across the desert. They are fine if you are a simple business doing normal things but for IM they are the suck. DON'T USE 1AND1 for web work you will regret it. Although I do find their free image gallery of 2k images kind of useful...

there is no doubt about it 1&1 is a shitty domain name provider, if you try transferring a domain to them they want u to fax in shit to them..come on in this day and age people are still faxing shit?? so I just never bothered.

they charged me 8.99 too for the 4.99 domain so I called and they refunded the difference claiming a problem when ordering thru the control panel whit is pretty shitty..

and not to mention what a royal pain in the ass to cancel your domain. they have a complete different control panel just for that which is complex as shit cancel.1and1.com
I am slowly moving all my domains from 1and1 but just took advantage of the 4.99 offer for a single domain name.

I bought some domains off of someone a few years ago, little did I know they were at 1and1. To this day they are still in there. I have not payed a single bill, nor used the domains. I don't know what the hell is going on but I still own them..

Funny how some people are suggesting godaddy when their domains are more expensive at $11.99/year... it's like $10.10 for renewing, but still that's more than $8.99. namecheap is around $9.29 or something...

still searching for a great registrar as I have thousands of domains... anyone know of one with free privacy, unlimited DNS options and email? would help.
