How does Facebook's algorithm determine which posts appear in a user's News Feed?

Keywords. Users talk with friends or comment, search for the keyword, and then FB will push the same posts about that

i would say it's based on which stuff you like or search for. i liked several posts about cats and the next time i scrolled through my timeline, cat posts appeared more often.

They collect data from your searches, likes and conversations

How does Facebook's algorithm determine which posts appear in a user's News Feed?
Facebook’s algorithm is designed to prioritize content that users are most likely to engage with and enjoy, based on a combination of factors such as:

  • Past interactions (likes, comments, shares),
  • Content type and recency,
  • The relationship between the user and the poster (friends, pages),
  • Relevance of the content to the user’s interests,
  • Time spent on the platform, and more.
This helps ensure that the posts appearing in a user’s News Feed are personalized, relevant, and timely, enhancing the user experience.

The Facebook algorithm uses ranking signals like past behavior and content popularity to predict whether users will engage with a post.

So, Engagement history matters !
