well we kinda use to do that every summer up at FSU...we would make c/o2006 etc groups an invite a "freshman" intern to help spread the word about parties, happenings, etc...an by fall get it to 3-5000 users an from there we would pretty much auction off the group to clubs or other promoters...
the fact that they managed to figure that out, in the wide world of facebook with its seemingly infinite userbase, is simply phenomenal.. it's actually extremely threatening to our kind of work when you consider that if a college admissions office can browse around and figure out that marketers are savvy, what would happen when sites like ebay/google really decide to crack down (more..) on sneaky (blackhat) marketing..I read this interesting blog on how "few" people are squatting 100's of groups.
