the fact that they managed to figure that out, in the wide world of facebook with its seemingly infinite userbase, is simply phenomenal.. it's actually extremely threatening to our kind of work when you consider that if a college admissions office can browse around and figure out that marketers are savvy, what would happen when sites like ebay/google really decide to crack down (more..) on sneaky (blackhat) marketing..

.. we get better, faster, than they can find us.

well we kinda use to do that every summer up at FSU...we would make c/o2006 etc groups an invite a "freshman" intern to help spread the word about parties, happenings, etc...an by fall get it to 3-5000 users an from there we would pretty much auction off the group to clubs or other promoters...

How much did you get for them?

being an idiot an not really knowing what i was doing an just being a college kid we charged 1150 for the group. for another group we had we were promoting a bar/restaurant we got it up to 500 or so but i guess our marketing was driving in a lot of business for them an we sold it for 1000...2 a head...

now with the group i got now we are thinking bout selling to our competition who is a promoter but doesnt "get" FB for about 3 a head...

Yeah, group squatting's been a thing for years, some ppl flip them for cash, others just hoard. FB cracks down now n then, but plenty still fly under the radar. Definitely a wild read!

Interesting content A bunch of groups that are owned by one person while it could be a valuable asset at a time when Facebook is going through a lot of changes
