Has facebook post targetting any positive effect?

Let's say I'm in the fashion niche and want to promote a cleavage dress, but only 60% of my fans are female.
Does it make any sense to only target female people with my post? Wouldnt I shoot myself in the foot because I heavily decrease my reach?
Or do these 60% see my post with a higher chance?

Not the best example but hoping to get some useful answers!

Yes, targeting a relevant audience will increase your click-through rate. We frequently target smaller audiences and the reach ends up blowing out bigger than that audience size all together.

    I dont really get it.

Lets say I have 10k facebook fans. Now I have a post about woman fashion maybe, so I only target my female fans which are around 5k.
Out of these 5k, I reach 2k and 400 interact with my post.

Wouldnt it be pretty much the same if I would target all my fans? I might even get some more interactions because some male fans might share / like / comment / whatever, too.
So out of 10k, I would reach around 4k and again 400-500 would interact.

So how does it make sense to target my post?

Targeting a more relevant audience will lead to higher click through rates. Higher click through rates will then hopefully lead to higher engagement rates.

If you had a 50/50 split of men and women on your page and you posted to everyone - at best you will get 50% engagement/CTR (although obviously will be much lower).

If you target females only, you will have at best 100% engagement/CTR (again, will still be much lower).

Think more about the ratios of clicks/engagement to audience size rather than overall reach numbers. High ratios imply your content is more interesting and relevant... Which is ultimately the key to running a good page.

You don't need to overthink it too much, I'm not suggesting it is necessary to target every single post, but if you were posting something which is strictly female orientated it would make a lot of sense to target females only.

It's always a good idea to target your ads as best as you can, don't think about reach when you do this as i don't think you'll do this for each and every post. And besides, normal reach will still be there, some male followers will still see the post, it's just that you will only pay that more female followers see it.

    Thanks for your answer mate!

No one was talking about ads mate. Of course not targeting your ads is a pretty bad idea :D
