Facebook leads for offline business

Hello fellow blackhatters,

I was just asked to generate qualified leads for an offline business using facebook. Is there any rules/regulations that I need to be aware of (facebook/US Law)? Or am I good to just message people asking if they are interested?

You have to be careful with how you word what you are saying. If enough people flag your messages as spam your facebook account can get canned. Also, You can't message people who you aren't friends with. You need to add them as a friend and send them a message in the friend request. My advice would be to make the messages very conversational and not sound like you are selling them anything. Maybe even break the ice with a "Hey %NAME% how is it going" and then say something like "quick question, would you by chance be interested in %OFFERED_SERVICE%" This way if they aren't interested there is a less likely chance they will report the message as spam. Just tried to message another account of mine that isn't a friend and I was able to send/receive w/o adding as a friend.

Keeping the messages conversational is a very good point I may even go so far as to open w/ a conversational message, add them and if they respond I will go ahead w/ my pitch.
