Peeps spend 30 Minutes a day on FB and maybe 5 minutes on google.........

Will FB develop and deploy its own search engine?

If they do and lets hope so it must have the ability to put a severe dent into google's business plans going forward! After all a lot of people open their browsers and go straight to FB, if they had a SE why would they need to go to google?

I own a bricks and mortar and have often had third parties call me with a view to selling me visibility on FB. With high g positions it was always something I never needed or considered to now.

Time for a rethink..............

I really doubt facebook will make their own search engine. Google is still way to strong to compete with.

I disagree FB is still a relatively young company. It will be looking to monetise as many avenues as it can and a cpc system with the ability to generate the same revenue as adwords is seriously going to grip their shit......
 
Why do so many people hate on Google and want other companies to take over? Google are one of the best as far as companies go. They blow 100's of millions into projects which they offer for free. Google maps, Earth, Webmasters Tools, Analytics, there's a long list of stuff they offer for free that cost them a ton to build.

They try and remain free to the end user as much as possible where other companies (cough Microsoft, Apple etc...) look to maximise at every opportunity. They helped revolutionize the browser way before chrome. They are the reason Firefox/Mozilla was able to exist as over 80% (if not more) of their income is from Google.
And now Google fibre is up and coming.

I'm all up for competition though, so I'll be glad to see facebook compete with them but Google are some years ahead and have the best team as far as SE experience goes. Same reason I'm glad Google wants to be an ISP. They just want as many people online as can be cause that makes them money. So they're not trying to maximize profit margins from consumers.

If it wasn't previously known, I love Google.

Bing will probably merge with facebook to create a search social network as Google are trying to acheive. So I do believe facebook will become a search engine too at some point.
 
A bing/ FB merger would make sense and be interesting.
Although techniques will likely remain focused on google, it's fun to imagine how ranking for a bing/ fb engine might work.
 
Competition is always good, although I don't think FB will ever release a search engine.
 
when they delete the fake accounts, will they have half of that? :)
 
1 billion reasons as to why you should be using Facebook as part of your Im strategy.

Even if half or so are bots and fake accounts - it is still very impressive
 
FB is only for scammers now i dont there is anything near to google and will come.
 
Google is an internet giant while fb is a social n/w giant...both have different ways.....I don't think they will come forward with a search engine alone.
 
Incredible that's a large database full of knowledge, who knows what the next plan is.
I don't know if FB can be part of global search engine since most of it's data is private - it will take a while to build a search engine which will require a lot of information outside their scope.
 
More like 700 million fake users and 300 million actual humans...
