facebook groups vs pages

so i want to start a facebook group and get a ton of ppl to join. i already did this with a page, but it doesnt have the message all members option

i know the group does but i just found out that once it goes over 5000 members it goes away.

so i was wondering what do you guys think is the better vehicle to get ppl to join and promote products .. groups or pages?

Pages. It will suggest to "Become a Fan" in the find friends part of the site to users who have friends who are a fan of the page already. Has the potential to go viral if you target people correctly.

Ok another idea I had involved advertising the page to a specific group of ppl. Instead of just say women I would market to all women only living in ft laderdale florida. In hope of making it more viral...what do you think?

yeh fan pages work wanders and groups do too. i use them both. i make a group and a fan page for that group. add the link to the fan page on the group and also a cpa offer on the group aswell.

let fan page build up nicely and then update status now n then with some offers.. it works wanders

Yea good idea. That's what I'm doin now I just need to find some good offers. Also I like the message feature on groups.

Another. Thing. Do you allow fans to write on the walls?

yeh i do but keep monitoring it as u dont want it to be a spam wall. like many groups end up. ive had to scrap my walls on 3 grousp due to spammers lol.. but fan pages yeh. just udpate status with offers. not everyday as this will piss em off.

as for offers? think trials, think make money online etc etc
