We have a Facebook group with over 300k members. We’ve noticed a significant decrease in engagement in the last 2 weeks. There has been no questionable content posted that would have triggered a shadowban.

Does anyone have experience with this or any advice to get things back to normal?

If there's no questionable content but engagement dropped, you're likely hit by a soft shadowban triggered by posting behavior or external link spam. Start by reducing link-based posts, avoid any automation for a few days, and engage natively with the community through comments, image posts, and polls. Sometimes this pattern reset is enough to lift the algorithmic restriction. If admin tasks were handled through browser automation or flagged IPs, that could be a contributing factor, but mobile proxies aren’t really a fix for this kind of FB shadowban scenario.

We've seen this happen quite a bit lately — Facebook seems to quietly suppress group reach without warning, especially with large groups.
Some things that might help:
  • Audit recent posts for anything FB may consider spammy, even if it seems innocent.
  • Avoid external links for a while and focus on native engagement (polls, questions, etc.).
  • Encourage members to turn on group notifications manually.
  • Stay active but don’t overpost — sometimes too much volume can trigger temporary suppression.

Could be any number of reasons why, some from your end, some out of your control. There's Admin/mod activity, possibly low or no real interactions on posts, that could get flagged in some way by the algo. On that note, algo tweaks that Meta likes to do here and there is a contributing factor.
Anyway, it’s usually the algo pulling back exposure based on interaction signals. You could re-engage your base and diversify post types, you can usually bounce back.

Causes can include algorithm changes, irrelevant content, and competition from other groups, and uptime can also affect engagement levels.

Yep, sounds like a soft shadowban. Even without violating content, FB can throttle reach if your posting pattern looks spammy — especially with links or automation. Best move is to pause links for a bit, post more organically (images, polls, comments), and re-engage like a real user. That often resets things

It is also possible that the content quality of recent posts is not good, no longer attracting readers, FB uses analysis algorithms and reduces interaction.

It could be that actual engagement is low or non-existent on posts, irrelevant and breathless content, and uptime can also affect engagement rate, so FB uses algorithms to analyze and reduce engagement.

Wow 300k members that's huge! But bummer about the engagement drop. I've seen that happen before. Sometimes it's just the Facebook algorithm being weird you know? Maybe try mixing up the types of posts you're sharing. Like add some polls or ask direct questions to get people talking. Running a contest could help too. Also see if any super active members have just been quiet lately. A quick nudge might get them back in the game. Good luck getting things back on track! It's totally fixable I bet.

If your Facebook group suddenly drops in engagement even though there is no offending content, it could be because Facebook’s algorithm has changed to prioritize meaningful engagement.
To recover, analyze your data to understand why and what content was effective. Then, focus on creating diverse, engaging content (especially videos, polls, and open-ended questions) and active admin engagement so that Facebook recognizes your group as a vibrant community.

Changes to the Content Algorithm:
Facebook regularly updates its algorithm to improve the user experience. Some recent updates may cause group content to be less visible than before, even if there has been no abuse. This may cause a temporary decrease in the number of posts shown to members.

It depends on the users in the group too. You can try adding new members to the group + use @highlight thì remind members about your group

The Facebook algorithm may be limiting exposure due to changes in member behavior or because the group is rated low on content quality. Try increasing the frequency of quality posts, encouraging member engagement, and avoiding repetitive content to restore reach.

It could also be that your content quality is no longer engaging, or that many people are posting randomly.

Now facebook group also very hard to post. All automatic disappesr contact or success post but no appear the group

This drop in engagement could be due to Facebook’s algorithm changes or natural group fatigue. To revive activity, try posting fresh, interactive content like polls, questions, or live videos. Encourage members to tag friends and share posts. Also, review your group settings and consider boosting key posts to increase visibility. Consistent moderation and member involvement usually help restore engagement over time.

FB algo updates could be limiting reach Try posting from diff admins rotate post types boost engagement with polls or reels Ask members to turn on notifs Also check Insights for drop source and clean up inactive or low quality posts to reset momentum.

The decline in engagement in Facebook groups can come from many different reasons, it could be due to content competition between groups, have you @"Featured" in each of your posts?

I think you should innovate your content, for example.

Groups getting shadowbanned is not uncommon, especially after recent algorithm updates. Even if there is no obvious violation, automated systems can flag groups for factors such as: sudden increase in members, content reported even by a small number of people, or even members sharing external links too often. What you can do is pause posting misleading content, increase internal engagement with natural posts without links, and encourage members to comment instead of just reacting. If possible, ask multiple key members to give positive feedback to the system about the group – this can sometimes help to “unfreeze” the group silently.
