I used to be able to invite the fans of the page to an event. Which is not spam or IM related at all. It's a fan page for local music scene. We are doing a show. Want to invite everyone. No more such option. Only get an option to invite my friends. Facebook is hungry for ad revenue! Now I don't feel bad spamming them at all :)

First learn a bit of facebook, you never able to "invite the fans of the page" to any event. You could invite group members below 5000 to an Group Related Event. Now this has gone. If you do have a page your best bet is to use creatively the post ability and u will get to most of your fans newsfeed if your page quality score is high. If you have a group of below 5000 you still call message all members so you are all good...

I am pretty sure you used to be able to invite all of your fans from your fan page to an event. However, this has long been changed, it is not new. You can still invite members of group to an event (at least a few days ago I know you could). I am not sure if they take this option away once your group exceeds a certain number of members (just like they take away the mass-messaging option).
