It looks like a common case of local optima to me.
The training phase of Neural Networks is not convex - meaning its hard to reach global optima.
So when the "AI" receives inputs that weren't part of the training, it outputs garbage.

There are more fascinating news from Yandex. They found that their translation Neural Network created its own language that is an amalgam of the major human languages.
When you want German to English translation, the NN first translates German to that new language, and then the text is translated to English.
That amalgam language is probably a better candidate to universal language than Esperanto.
 
They need to make sure we have total control of this. Juat because we can doesnt mean we should.

The story has largely been sensationalized elsewhere. It's not that they stopped it because they thought it was going to get out of control and take over Earth.

Interesting "depending on who is running the AI" there is still much to debate remember clean water and sewage depend on programmers.
fk with the water supply and you can cause havic on a nation state.

Great... then we can sell ebooks on "how to get any robot", as AI will have them turning men down. What does a bot want with sex other than its non physical connectionsor manipulative benefits? The movie Her was pretty edgy and close to the topic. Hope you're never that lonely.
