Facebook advertising for construction-based company - please give targeting advice

    Hi. Im having real problem with site that is manages ads for construction companies and potential clients who need services in that area. Its basically about supply and demand, and that site only now joins Facebook.

    Now while I was setting up an ad (only for Croatia), this is what I came up with :


    • who live in Croatia
    • between the ages of 25 and 55 inclusive
    • in one of the categories: Environment, Home & Garden, Real Estate, Luxury Goods, Small Business Owners or Personal Finance
    • Suggested Bid: $0.02 - 0.05 USD

    It targets around 200 thousand people, and without Luxury Goods it goes on half of that.

    But this is the problem : Advertising result in past 3 days is terrible, and its not that I have small number of clicks, but reach is really bad all together. 4k in 3 days...

    What do you suggest I do here? Is this simply a usual case because people in this line of work are on average much less connected to social networks?

    Since my target should be not only companies, but people who need companies to do work for them, on their home, property, who should I target?? I have a feeling I could target few million people when I think like that.

    Please give me some advice.

    Have you tried doing any traditional market research? Surveys, industry info, customer questionnaires? What do you know about how your market buys these services? Do you know how long the buying cycle is for the services you are marketing? There is typically a lot more to this than knowing what age group most often buys these services and where they are located. Do you know if the people you are targeting own homes or otherwise are in a position to need construction services? You may find in the end that your target market is not even that active on Facebook.

    If I were you I would go to your client and ask them what info they already have on their customers pertaining to the questions above. Ask to talk with prior customers to see if you can start developing trends in buying habits or consumer characteristics.

    Bottom line is that you need to know the people you are marketing too in order to target them and serve them relevant ads.
