As far as I know, buying likes will affect the running of ads as well as advertising results, and can easily cause the page to die.

I would do it differently. Facebook is very good at recognizing whether the comments / likes come from the people to whom they were sent.
That's why I'm going to give you a trick. Start the ad and select a Tier3 country e.g. Philippines / India. In my experience, this will get you a lot of likes (people are very active in this regard) while at the same time you only pay minimally for it.
When you have your desired number of likes you can stop it and play it again for your desired country (e.g. USA). The likes remain.

You shouldn't, Facebook has a strict policy against using services that buy fake likes or interactions. If you are caught using these services, your account may be locked
