i do local seo for small business and today when I check my rank, my sites took a hit.

I took a look in scroogle and it says my sites are fine. But when I search in actual google it says my sites dropped 3-5 spots. Lets say I'm in Miami and google miami plumber. My site won't be in the #1 spot anymore and would hae dropped. If I change the location settings to philadelphia and then google Miami plumber, my site will be right back up. I have the best optimized site and the best backlinks. Anybody know why this is happening.

F*ck Google

Try adding content on a somewhat regular basis. Like once a week or once a month. Google might think the site is left in the dust or getting outdated due to inactivity. Might test that and see if it works.

Its local SEO, why do I want to be ranked #1 only when people who are searching outside of my area. What a bunch of crock.

You should be gagged for saying this : F*** Google This is Bullsh*t

Maybe you should ask for advice nicely, for a lot of people "Google" is the one who provides the bakon, lol

I think it depends on what methods you used. How can you determine what is the "best backlinks"... it's a bit hard to with Google's algorithms changing constantly.
Keep in mind methods that worked in the past may not be working so well at this point.

If you want to PM me and send me a few of the affected links/companies I will try to do a search on my side and see if I can diagnose anything for you...

I am also in Miami so I can check directly and then see what it says fo me...Hope I can help a bit...

It's a normal drop dude,3-5 spots,not -50 penalty.Maybe your competitor got stronger

First, this is not a personal attack on you, so don't take it that way.

Yes, it's extremely frustrating to see sites bouncing all over the place, but honestly, that is the nature of the game. Bitching and moaning about it is not going to increase your rankings or do anything positive for you.

I am seeing more and more reactions like yours all over the place, and this indicates to me that too many people are taking SEO too lightly these days.

Google and the other search engines will always be changing their ranking algorithms. Anyone that builds their business around SEO knows this and accepts this.

The best course of action you can take is to take a look at your stats for the site in question(assuming you are tracking it) and try to identify areas that could be the cause of your ranking fluctuation.

Also, note that Google has recently thrown out Panda 2.5. Anytime Google updates, rankings almost always bounce around. That is because Google is adjusting your rankings based on its latest updates(The "Google Dance").

I had a Handyman Site that sat in first three positions forever then one day it was just gone I mean like 15th page I went back into Google maps and posted an up-date and within hours I was right back on first page if they see no activity your toast !!!

Anybody know why this is happening.

You think you have problems? I dropped down to 386 for my best keyword. Dropped down for everything else too. I saw a change right after Google Panda but it wasn't too bad. Now I just keep going lower and lower and my site is optimized better than it has ever been. Maybe I will start to go up again.

Im number 1 - but it makes NO difference - because there are 3 adwords ads all spaced out above me with site links and review counts and all that shit - and I am almost off the bottom of the fold now.

SEO is fucked in situations like this - infact I feel a new thread coming on.

Well if you show as number 1 in scroogle and if you look at your sites from a different IP, it sounds like Google search is tailoring your results so your not seeing true results. Google tailors your search results to what they think you want, and that may be what you are seeing. Go turn off filtering and see if that helps.

how do I check if I am number 1 in scroogle? I am confusicus?

Whatever scroogle is - I dont understand that - looks like a google filter.

Anyway - I am number 1 on ALL computers of friends family etc etc.

The POINT is that number 1 IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FUCKING PAGE NOW - BENEATH ADWORDS.
