F*ck those damn douche bags at m*arket*ingtips.com aka IMC. I had a recurring monthy subscription (that I didn't even need anymore) for one of their products and my cc they had on file expired on 12/07.

Since they have an expired card then they can't charge anymore right? WRONG! These CROOKED ASSHOLES phished for my new expiration date and went ahead and charged my card!

To make a long story short, I called them on this VERY ILLEGAL activity and I still had to fight to get my charges refunded. I am still waiting for my refund and of course they admit no wrongdoing.

And Der*ek Geh*l seems like an arrogant ass. There is no way to contact the head of this criminal enterprise as they refuse to even give out his email address.

Don't give these jerkoffs your cc # or you may be sorry...

Take a look on information that I have just found:

Major credit-card networks now allow a "recurring indicator" (a byte of data) to be written into transactions. Merchants that include this byte no longer need to provide a card's expiry month and year, allowing charges to continue on cards that may have expired.
"Account updater" services enable merchants to obtain a consumer's new credit-card number if it has changed due to fraud, a change of banks, or some other reason. This also means that recurring charges can continue.
Credit-card networks, provides merchants in the know with new numbers for its customers whose accounts have changed for whatever reason.

Recurring payments stop mechanism - the recurring payment cancellation service.
The same rules apply to all issuers of plastic c/c in whatever country they may operate.

To stop this activity you need to contact the merchants and inform them that you wish to cancel your membership.

This is pretty common. As mitter said, if the card number hasn't changed the merchant is given the new expiry. This is a convenience so that you don't have a lapse in services.

I've been using Amex to pay for almost anything I can, especially recurring services such as cell phone, cable, chart packages, etc. Since I've had the same card number for decades, it's nice to not have to re-input the information. Then, if I wish to cancel an ongoing service, I do so.

Damn, this must be pretty new cuz when my card expired in December, they couldn't charge it in January or February. Then all of a sudden in March they were able to charge again. No one at IMC explained this, they only said "you must have updated your card with us" (I did not).

I got a subscription on my ebay sellers account with the same card I used with IMC and they didn't pull this crap.

It's not, at least not in my many years of experience of paying for continuously renewable services with a credit card.

If you wish to close an account or discontinue a service, why not simply do so?
