Extremely low ad revenue?

I've been running an adult website for a while now and attempting to monetize the site by being a publisher for various adult ad networks. The goal is to at least break even on hosting/CMS fees.

That being said, the three adult ad networks I've tried have had disappointing returns. My site receives about 400,000 monthly views. The first network paid $0.77 for the month, the second has paid $24 over three months, and the last one has paid $2 for the month.

Is adult ad revenue really this low? Am I doing something wrong, or are the ad networks that unreliable?

I thought it's about adsense, but on adult website, that I have no idea about.

What are the countries you get traffic from? maybe ads are not target for your traffic.

Is it a niche site or general? Niche sites = targeted ads = $$$.

It's a pretty niche site, the ads do seem to be targeted, and from what I can tell I have been getting clicks as well. Most traffic is from the US, about half is also on mobile. I've tried AdXpansion, Exoclick, and JuicyAds so far.
