Does anyone know any good software to extract phone numbers from paper documents that I will scan onto the computer. What is the best way to do this? The phone numbers will be in UK format. I have 1000s of phone numbers that need to be scanned in and digitalised as it would take days to do it by hand.

Thanks for the replies everyone :p

Anyways if anyone is in the same situation I'll tell you how to overcome it. We had basically collected a years worth of classified newspapers and needed to extract the numbers into an excel document.

1) Install ABBYY FineReader and scan in all the files and convert them to word. This will turn it from a scan image to editable text.
2) Sort all the phone numbers (remove duplicates ect)
3) Install a software called "PhoneNumberExtractor.V2". This will extract the numbers from all your word documents into an excel file.

Ended up sending out over 20,000 texts :)

I was going to tell you to use abbyy fine reader as soon as I saw your post title :(

Sorry I was too late!!!

SobolSoft also has some great tools to do this. I'm not sure how the UK phone numbers will play into this, but worth looking into.

They also have programs that search for a different type of text.
