My olive oil says extra virgin ... what does this mean? any deeper meaning to this.

seriously how do you not just google these things people....

it's means virgin fresh never been use lucky to find some virgins now days :D
 
I didn't even know Olive Oil was still a virgin. I was sure Popeye or Bluto would of broken the skinny bitch by now.

"verge" means that is oil press for the first time. They press the olives the first time and get the oil they get.
Then the oil could be press more times and gets more oil,but it's of worst quality.
 
Extra virgin is the highest quality olive oil -- characterized by "perfect flavor and odor, max acidity (oleic acid) of 1g/100g - 1% with maximum peroxide value mequiv 02/kg of 20." In some regions, extra virgin oil is judged by a panel of experts for taste, mouth feel, and aroma. This oil tends to be most delicate in flavor, and is preferred for salads or served at the table with bread for dipping, or added to soups and stews.

actually i read a very interesting article about the connection between olive oil and Italian organized crime not too long ago, how the agromafia controls the whole chain and dictates the prices, it wasn't the following article, it was more detailed and on my native language, but here ya go:

the extra virgin olive oil are not so virgin most of the times, a good portion is counterfeited and mixed with cheaper oils

that much extra virgin oil physically impossible to exist what is on the market in any given moment
 
Don't listen to them! They are all wrong. It means that your oil hasn't yet been used as lube, so it is safe for you to do so. ;)
 
As family, we produce a small quantity of olive oil for our consumption. I can tell you from the difference in taste, that as HoNeYBiRD said, what gets in the store is usually "not so virgin most of the times" (at least in my experience). Still better than other oil though. :)
