external link - what does this code mean?

I want to buy an article from a big niche related website.

I see that all their external link have this code:

I never saw this

before. Does that mean that the backlink is "masked" somehow and does not count?

Or is this no problem?

The link is ok, that is code to track events such as clicks in G Analytics

I don't think it would harm you.

I don't think it's a cloaking code.

From the looks of it, it looks like a typical tracking code.

So don't worry about it.

Instead I would focus more on the quality of the content of that page.

Also, I would focus more on how tightly the content of that backlink's page and your target page's content fits.

The key here is to get as tight of a fit going as possible.

It's all about quality, bro.

Looks like goal (event) tracking. But the href part is there so googlebot will count it as any other link.

It's tracking outbound clicks for analytic purposes, just as Andrew said.

It's not masking anything, you'll be fine and the link will pass juice.
