1. How important is it to buy multiple extensions.
2. Will this protect my site from being stolen if it gains popularity.
3. Will going with godaddy be that terrible if I'm on a limited budget (50 bucks) and just starting off as a newbie.
4. Lastly, is the whois option namecheap includes free for a year a must have and is it a good idea to use my real name when registering my domain and host?

I am aware that I still have to purchase a host from hostgator so I didn't want to spend all my money at name cheap.

1) It's not that important unless you have something big. If you are buying out all the extensions for your business, then it should be making enough to easily afford the registrations fees for all those extensions.
2) That's the idea...Although if you really wanted to protect your popularity you'd need to register all extensions, which would be extremely costly.
3) I actually like GoDaddy myself, so I would say no
4) You can use a different name/address for the whois
