Hello just wanted to know whats the big deal with proxies. I understand I can use them with my browser and what not.. But how and why would I use proxies for my server or VPS? How else can proxies be used? Am I missing the big picture... thanks and peace...

If you maintain a computer network and wish to control the use of the Internet
on your networked computers, you might choose to use a proxy server.
Proxy servers offer various features, including the ability to monitor Web traffic,
log employee Internet use and block certain websites.

also

A proxy server is used as a go-between for data from browsers to websites
on the internet. There are many advantages of using a proxy server, both
for the user and the organization offering internet access to the user.
In general, proxy servers are used to improve performance, enhance security,
and hide activities from others.

If you are a internet marketer and you would like to create multiple account for the same site to make more $$$$ then you have to use proxies or else the accounts that you created with your home ip will be suspended, and that's not any good when you are trying to make $$$. There uses are endless.

proxies are like multiple identities on the internet

What do you mean with 'original pc info'? The User-Agent? You can specifiy whatever User-Agent you like, it's up to you, it's a client side future and part of the HTTP -Request.

I generally never trust proxys which I didn't set up myself. If I am in a need to be anonyme, I capture a server in a fucked up country (= secure) and install a socks5 server. It's effective, darn fast and there is no logging :)

According to my knowledge a proxy is a person or thing that represents another person or thing as a matter of convenience, necessity or fact.Proxy servers provide extra security for businesses by enabling network administrators to easily track the online activity of their employees. Additionally, they make the computers at the business more secure by making it difficult for hackers to access those computers from the outside.
