A lot of people asked themselves, including myself, 'when I should start monetizing my social account?' First we thought the answer lays in the size of the fan base, and that is the wrong thinking. The only think you should look at is your engagement. So after some researching and testing I've come up with these numbers - the minimum you should have when you start monetizing.

Facebook - avg 100 likes per post
Twitter - avg 100 retweets per tweet
Instagram - 1000 likes per post
Tumblr - 1000 reblogs per post
Pinterest - 50 repins per post

*NOTE* You will probably start earning when you have smaller numbers than these, but it may kill your engagement while your account is in growth, and also it may demotivate you when you see low earnings, but when you achieve these numbers you will start seeing some decent money, and you will get new followers who will replace the 'milked out' ones by simply posting stuff regularly. Also, niche, type of monetization, and a skill to sell a product plays a huge factor.

Definitely agree with you on this one, you can have huge accounts with fake likes and no engagement and you can have small pages/groups that are highly targeted and have a crazy high engagement rate...now if only all the people creating new/useless threads about "when/how to make money with my social accounts" found this thread it would be perfect :)
