Explain to me: The Amazon Gift Card

I am sure that most of you know what an Amazon Gift Card is. Well, I don't. I didn't get into Amazon until just recently.
So what is an Amazon Gift Card? Is it a code or a physical good?
If I want to (this is an example) give away some Amazon Gift Card do I have to deal with all the trouble of sending it to them in a letter or can I just PM it to him/her with the code that they put into their Amazon account and they'll balance will increase or something.

Please someone explain.

It's just a voucher code I think.

Buy the voucher code online, send the code to your friend or whoever and they have to login to their amazon account and redeem it (just type in google "redeem amazon gift card").

They make both physical gift cards as well as the online codes. So yes you can just pm them the code.
 
send the amazon card to anyone or use it yourself.

Amazon gift card both are virtual and physical, hell you can send it as a gift to someone to, for example to your gf to do some online shopping.

In your account there is a option under settings, apply gift card code.

Once applied, the exact amount of which the card is will be credited to your account.

after that

Shop till you drop.........
 
For me personally my Amazon gift cards come in my email , with the subject sounding something like congratulations you recieved a amazon gift card, you open the email and the code is in bold print. I only use my amazon account for IM, so i simply copy and pasted it into my wifes account and she was credited the money.
 
I don't think you can buy a physical gift card and then send it as a digital gift card. I'm also pretty sure you can't buy a digital gift card with a physical gift card or vice versa which would be the obvious workaround.
 
It's either Electronic code (which comes in a pdf or in the body of the email) or a Physical card with the code printed on it.
If you are purchasing directly from Amazon, then you can even send a personalized message to the person you are sending the gift to.

You can load it into your account for later purchases or directly use the code while you are purchasing.

Many different option are available to buy amazon gift cards. Email, Print, Plastic Card, Local stores etc.
 
It is either an code that is emailed or a card that is sent. The only thing to be concerned with is that amazon may be able to better track item that were bought with a gift card.
 
You can buy it at Amazons online and get them sent to someone as a gift so they will use the amount on the card for shopping whatever they want. Someone can buy it for you, in that case you do the shopping!
