Proxies will reroute your browser traffic while VPNs can do this for whole operating system. Proxies are great for anonymous web browsing and bypassing geo-restrictions while VPNs are good for preventing being tracked by ISP, or any other party trying to intercept with your device. Most of the proxies are undetectable while VPNs are detected because they are also encrypting your data.

VPNs are proxy, a proxy server simply put takes ur requests and send it to the server, receiving the response by the server and sending it to you afterward

VPN encrypts data and also aplies to all traffic from a device. Proxy does not encrypt data and usually only applies to a specific app. However proxies also allow you to bypass blocks, since they come from different ip addresses (residential & mobile) whereas VPN traffic can more easily be blocked.
