what would be the best way to describe what proxies are in one sentence?

I'm using the word proxies in a sentence.

Proxies are votes cast on behalf of a participant in a democratic or parliamentary system by the participant's delegate or representative.
 
A proxy is like you and your buddy walking up to an ugly girl and her hot friend in the bar, and your buddy talks up the ugly girl so that you can talk to the hot girl unopposed.

Your proxy talks to the Internet for you so that the server doesn't see what computer is really connecting to the site.

A proxy, or proximication, allows your local divulged activity to be averted watonly through outer shells, anonymously, so you remain undefineable. :)
