Expiring Domains ranking disappearing

A couple of my domains have been due to expire and I've noticed that whenever it's close to expiration time, the domains that are expiring start to slip in rankings or disappear altogether in the rankings.

Site A:

Registered it a year ago, didn't touch it.

All of a sudden I decide to go ahead with the project. I make a website, blast links and it's sandboxed. I wasn't expecting a year old website to even be playing in the sandbox.

I checked the expiration date, and it expired next week... so 2 days ago I renewed it for another year... I'm waiting to see what happens now that I renewed it... will it come out of the sandbox and play nice?

Site B:

Expires in a couple weeks. Was ranking on first page for main keyword... i haven't backlinked it in months.... all of a sudden it disappears as it's heading to it's expiration date...



I'm wondering out loud.... have you guys ever experienced this?

Actually, I just double checked and site B is already in expiration mode....

I have 90 days to renew....

I'm guessing this is why it disappeared from the first page...

some people recomend purchasing at least 2 or 3 years in advance...

I just read some article pieces and they say the same thing. I guess that we shouldn't be letting our domains get near the expiration date if we want Google to think we are a trusted and stable website.

Main reason is TRUST, trust in google eyes, create new site, post few keyword rich artiles, forget about it for 5-6 months and start your baclinking, i guess u will be shocked about results vs new domain ))
P.S. domain expiration date is nothing...

just because the domain is a year old or it could be 5 years old if nothing had been done on it or its been a long time and then out of the blue you start getting a ton of link then yes it still can get sandboxed.

I know I should take my domains for years at a time but seem to do fine going a year at a time. Even if expiration is imminent, mine don't seem to suffer, maybe it's some other variable like the registrar?

I know I've heard of those type of irregularities being attributed to the registering company, of course I have no idea personally just throwing out diff bits of info diff people believe

It's not just some random claim. Google actually took out a patent on using the length of domain registration and domain expiry as a ranking factor ie. domains that were registered for 2 years or more would be looked at as being more trustworthy than domains that were registered for a single year (as a spammer would do).

Whether they are actually using this do determine rankings is another issue, but it's a matter of public record that they were awarded that patent. Matt Cunts has stated that time until expiry isn't an issue, but we all know that he's regularly full of shit.
