Expiring domains and Snapnames - Question

Was wondering if its worth paying snapnames the $70 or just waiting for the domain to expire and buying it on the minute? (there has been no bids yet)

Depends how the domain is. If it's good, someone else might snag it.
I personally just pay the fee for the peace of mind knowing I'm getting it. If it's just an 'okay' domain, then I'll take the risk.
But if it's a domain I'll be kicking myself over, I just pay the fee.
I've gotten 160k exact search EMDs through snap.

Hey Jon, but what about the domain's general reputation ? is there any difference between buying it before it has expired or... the fact that it expires and then someone buys it affects the reputation?

I think it will be the same : the whois data will change, the nameservers will change, ...

Yeah it's the same. Though I haven't registered many recently, few years ago I picked up quite a bit. And I remember depending on the registrar it was expiring from, it would actually keep the old registration date, which was great. But don't expect it to, because the majority lose the registration date and it's a 'new' domain.

Thanks for clarifying that up for me guys... so I guess, buying auctioned domains would preserve the age - but its much harder to find gems, like with expiring domains; all depends on your goal...

Problem with auctioned names is that there's a good chance someone is dumping this name because they fucked it up and it's penalized. So if you see something too good to be true, it probably is.
