Expired vs Expiring domain for PBN?

Hi. My understanding is that expiring domains are good to get because they haven't dropped yet, so if you convert it into your PBN network, they will typically provide good link juice.

What about expired domains? That is, domains that have already been dropped. Are expired domains still effective at giving good link juice if you purchase it put it into your PBN network? Or will Google devalue an Expired domain and it's just a waste of time and money to get them? Do expired domains also create a bigger footprint because Google thinks expired domains are more likely to be used for PBNs?

For the 100th and last time.

There's absolutely no difference between "expired" and "expiring" domain. None at all. The sheer status of the domain is not an SEO factor, it's not a link juice factor, it means absolutely nothing.

What you think will work better? Assuming backlink profiles are identical.

"Expiring" domain that has been offline for 5 years and is nowhere in index.
Expired domain that has been offline for a month and is still in index.

Take a guess.

i think we need a new forum feature where for every such question relating to expired domain your disclaimer should pop up. Honestly I too was like others till you had explained me in pm, so op do follow his words

I searched blackhatworld for the keywords "expired" and "expiring" in the title to see if there was a thread that discussed the difference between the two but I could not find such a thread. However, just now, I discovered that some people like to use the word "auction" instead of "expiring." So perhaps I should be searching for "auction" and "expired," which returns more thread results.

I am asking because I read this article here that talks about Google potentially devaluing expired domains: https://fatjoe.com/googles-john-mueller-put-an-end-to-pbns/. So for me, it's worth a check and ask the community to see what Google has done lately since their algorithm keeps on changing.

Like I said, I searched for threads with the keyword "expired" and "expiring" in blackhatworld and I did not see any threads with titles that discusses both the differences between expired and expiring domains. But just now, I learned that some people like to use the keyword "auction" instead "expiring." So perhaps I should be searching for "auction" and "expired," which returns more thread results.

Also, I read this article here that discusses that Google may have devalued expired domains: https://fatjoe.com/googles-john-mueller-put-an-end-to-pbns/. So I'm just doing my due diligence to find out whether that article has any merit or not.

While I do not really agree with Nargil that the age is completely non-factor, both kind of domains works just fine. Still expiring domains are usually bought at the auctions and are with way better links, while expired are mostly those who no one bid for at the auctions so... Still you can get them for $20-30 while for the auctioned you need way deeper pockets.
 
So for anybody reading this, instead of searching for "expiring" as the keyword, I discovered some people here in blackhatworld like to use "auction" instead. After plugging in "auction" and "expired" for my search, I can finally find some relevant threads on this topic.

Dropped domains work very well! Just make sure you get a clean domain and have a good link profile.
