Expired domains with high linked PDFs, what do you do with them?

I have an expired domain I'm going to use for PDF and I have come across it a few times now where there are PDF files that have some good links to them. What do you guys do in this case? Just leave the link? Redirect to home? Put up a fake pdf in same url?

301 all 404 pages to root domain.

haven't had the situation yet, but why not making a html site with the same content like the pdf?

some ppl say there flows no link juice through pdfs..

301 redirects for sure. I love buying up expired domains, not instant but I'll usually at least get a positive ROI from the cost.
