Expired domains for PBN - ranking drop after transfer

Hello PBN gurus, just started on building my own pbn so looking for some guidance.

I purchased a couple expired domains. Before purchasing, the domains usually rank #1 on google when searching for the exact domain name. eg rank #1 when google for "domain-name" for domain-name.com. However typically a week after purchase, searching for "domain-name", the domain can only be found in 4th or 5th page while searching for "domain-name.com" would still be on the first page.

Is this normal behavior? Am I doing something wrong? After domain successfully transfer I usually change the DNS to cloudflare. I usually restore all the pages from wayback too.

add some unique content to your blog and recheck it
 
Add one page of content and link to a competitor website with an exact anchor. Choose website from 3-4 page for a search term and see if there's any movement after couple of weeks. This way you can see easily if the domain is good or not.
 
May check your back links metrics but am not sure due to your backlinks quality your site ranking drop
 
Most good PBN builders don't use "expired domains" that have dropped. Instead, buy domains from auctions and these give much better results. Why? Because 80% of the expired domains you can find on expireddomains.net for example have been spammed to hell already.

Good advice above, this is the way I check mine,
 
Hi. I think there's some misunderstanding so let me clear this up with a clearer example:

1) I bought holyshit.com, an expiring domain (not expired). searching for "holyshit" and "holyshit.com" on google would return holyshit.com as first result. so everything looks good.
2) once the domain transferred successfully, I usually restore the original site's content from wayback immediately. Previously it would be the registrar's expiring landing page.
2) few days or a week after the domain transferred successfully, searching for "holyshit" on google, I can only find holyshit.com in page 4, or 5. searching for "holyshit.com" would still be first place. so google ranking for "holyshit" has dropped, but "holyshit.com" is still fine.

It seems like the ranking drop for "holyshit" after the registration details are changed. And it's a consistent behavior across multiple domains. So I'm not sure if it's normal for PBN or I did something wrong but Google does seems to note the changes of ownership and penalize for the "holyshit" search term.

Ahh okay now I see it clearer. Basically the same thing I do when building PBNs and let me add this:

A few days ago I noticed a change too, I bought "holycrap.com" and searching for "holycrap" was before on the first three results but it got kicked back for a few days onto the THIRD results page. Kinda freaked me out, but I didn't do anything actually and today it's number one result for "holycrap". I don't know why but maybe the slight differences from the original site (and downtime) gave a sort of hiccup in rankings? That's my best guess.
 
It never happened to me, unless the web host is down for over a week or so. If I was in your position, I would wait for another week to decide on the rankings and hopefully, it should hit the #1 spot.

At times patience hurts, but you don't have other options now =)
 
I don't understand the why, is this because G filters makes it's harder to index an expired spammed domain ?

1 question- have you built any website with domains? some domain regstrars offer dummy landing pages which can help domain kw ranking. after transfer may be the new registar or the same one has no dummy page. check this thing.
 
I was in splits after reading the holyshits and holycraps:smirk:
 
Add some content and make a few high quality web 2.0's. Also add the domain to webmaster tools and check if it got a manual penalty. I don't think it did because u say it was ranking just before you buy the domain. It sometimes take 2-3 weeks to get the ranking back.
