I am new to buying expired domains
I found a domain in namecheap for 11 usd
in semrush it shows that it has a backlink from los angles times and it refer to it as a food or something
I checked the wayback machine and there is no sign of spam or any abuse
I want to use this domain as a 301 redirect to give my website a high authority backlink
is it a good idea to buy it for that reason or should I sell it (if so how much it worth)
I am confused
what do you think guys?

Buying it just for a 301 based on one Los Angeles Times backlink is not worth it’s unlikely to give any real SEO benefit.

A single high-quality backlink (even from a big site) doesn’t guarantee SEO value, especially if the domain’s old niche isn’t relevant to yours. 301 redirects from expired domains can work, but they’re risky and often ignored if Google sees it as manipulation.

If the domain has clean history and multiple strong, relevant links, it might be worth testing,otherwise don’t rely on it for authority. Flipping value is usually low unless it has strong branding or consistent traffic.

You won't get a decent clean domain for $11 by just randomly looking these days. Maybe if you go through a batch of a few thousand, then one of those domains could be usable.

301 redirects are dangerous and can screw up your site, don't do them if you have no prior experience. Also, redirecting domains that have maybe 2 referring domains will have zero effect anyway. Build PBN site out of it if you want, but a domain for $11 will have miniscule to no effect anyway.

Sounds decent, but don’t overhype it.

One backlink (even from LA Times) doesn’t guarantee much, especially with a 301, Google doesn’t always pass full value.

If the domain is relevant to your site, it might help. If not, probably not worth it.
 
Not bad, but I’d still explore NakamaID before final decision.
 
You can find good and expired DA + DR domains through spamzilla and other services
 
❌ Don't buy just for redirects to get backlinks
❌ No high flip value
⚠️ SEO value is almost zero in this case

If you still like it:

Buying it to test/learn SEO is OK (11 USD is a cheap tuition fee)
 
One good backlink alone isn’t enough, if the domain isn’t relevant and clean overall, a 301 won’t move much, but for $11 it’s a cheap test.
 
If the site’s niche was food and yours is something totally different the redirect might not do much and can even look off. Also a lot of those links drop or get ignored over time.
