Expired domain with first last name

im trying to make my own pbn and when i check expiring domains with ahrefs i found a lot of good domains with first last name which original owners let them expire because they dont use it anymore or because they started a different site.

example : johnsmithmusic.com (musician), rachelgriffin.com (female activist) and so on. some of the domain names belonged to some local entertainers but some of them belonged to some national writers/musicians and they have some wikipedia/examiner link etc. I'm not talking about celebrities or something.

is it safe to register them for a pbn? can i have any copyright problems?
usually you skip those domains or you go with them?

I'd use those. But I wouldn't reuse old content. I'd make it a personal blog that belongs to 'john smith' and he shares his love of music with his readers. Hope you get the idea.

why?if they let their site expire that means they don't longer need it right?
and how michael is saying above i will for sure not use old content since that is copyrighted.
 
Register it/them, they're free game if they let them expire. If they contact you in the future, sell it to them for a shit ton more.
 
Register it, unless they are the only one named this or have copyrighted their name (highly unlikely) it is OK :)
 
It won't be a problem to register them. They're expired so there won't be a problem to use the domains.
 
I register a bunch of those - there are so many people with similar/same first and last name it's almost never an issue. (never in my case, but leaving room for others to chime in)

They are great for any niche because you can make them out as personal blogs and talk about anything you want, and it'll always look natural. Get it.
 
Register and contact them. A lot of times people don't even know they let is expire or they didn't mean to -- This is where you can make some nice money...

Also - I would think if anything, you'll have trademark problems, not copyright.
 
You can use them, but don't try what OutOfTown and Automated suggested. Grabbing a domain and trying to sell it to the previous owner is risky business, even if it's not a trademarked term. Quite a few people learned an expensive lesson this way.
 
Go ahead and register them. I buy domains like this all the time without any problem.
 
Yes. Of course, you can register. Most of them having same first name and last name. So its not a big issue. Already used first and last name is now expired. So you don't worry about copyright problems and then the account is not active now.
 
Yes of course you can use them,that will be pretty easy to rank again,Use high quality contents on that domains and you will be fine with those.
 
IMO, I will register it. Copyright is not a problem as long as you will not use the previous content.
 
I don't see any reason not to buy them. After all, there can be thousands of John Smith's out there. In fact, I find them easiest to be re-themed. You can take a "johnsmith.com" site about cars and make a new site about weight loss as a fitness coach named John Smith offering advice, etc.
 
If they let it expire then it is open market it's not like you are stealing from them you are buying fair and square
 
We add the domain name to an expired domain name auction.
 
Don't listen to morons talking about trademarks. Private names are NOT trademarks. Take these domains all the time. Besides, they sometimes can be sold for very high prices, rather than used for PBN. People would pay huge amounts for their name domain.
