Hi there guys.

So I recently bought an expired domain with some good backlink profile. I manually checked the backlinks and 95% of them look legit and some links are really coming from top authority sites of my country.

The bad thing is, once I asked one person to add the site to the search console it showed that the domain has a penalty for spam.

It was my bad that I didn't check archive.org and was ok with just checking the backlinks manually. So what I can see from archive.org that in 2001-2002 the domain had some chinese site there. So I guess the penalty is coming from that period. From 2002 till ~ 2015 the domain wasn't used at all.

My question is: what can I still use this domain for? Is it still ok to be a part of my PBN or penalty steals all power from it? Maybe as a backlink for some of my PBNs? Is it worth it and is it dangerous by any means?

Thanks in advance.

Lol! Actually a good update here.

So, once we saw that penalty ~ a week ago, there was a message to tell Google that you "removed all the spam" or that it's a mistake, something like that. So we messaged them. Just checked it out - and the penalty is gone!

Can be used now with full power? :)

I've read a few weeks ago that John Muller from G confirmed that they remove penalties from sites after some time. That means that penalty for your site maybe expired?? Maybe you should research this before made any final decision? Good luck!
