Hey whatsup, BHWers,

Recently, I purchased an expired domain name with some good metrics. Let's call it xxx.com (assume xxx is the name). After doing some research, I realize that that domain used to be home to the now xxxmedia.com which is an entertainment blog for music. They're not really big or that established. It's run by 5 people, but the site was last updated in May 2015. Also, their FB page has a mere 200 likes, so really nothing really big.

My question is, what are my rights to use this domain name? Would I get in trouble for using this domain? I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this. Thank you!

P/s - I've already emailed a local entertainment law practitioner to ask her opinion on this, but I would love to get some thoughts on this from you guys, especially if you've been in the same boat.

**UPDATE**
Got in contact with the owner. She was a very cool person and didn't mind me using the old domain. Even liked the idea of my site and said I probably would be getting visitors from her old links!

Well, it looks like your question was answered. Even though the owner gave you permission to use their old branded domain, I would still avoid using it In anyway that might make people think that your site is associated with the business.

Anyway, good for you for actually looking into the legality of using the domain and contacting the old owner. :)
