I just found a domain on godaddy closeout auctions that I want to purchase.

When I go to domain.com, it is showing the standard godaddy landing page which mentions that the domain has expired and is available on godaddy auctions.

but when I go to www .domain.com, the whole website is still there with full functionality with no mention of the domain being expired etc...

Is this normal?

by the way, domain expired on 02/02/2012...

ps. wow BHW threads get indexed really fast. I searched for the title of this thread within five minutes of posting and this thread was the top result :p

I've never noticed that myself, but if the site was ranking at all before and you are going to buy it, you should scrape the content and repost it on the domain until you have your new content ready :D

just see it for yourself:

Code:
4everclean.com
Code:
www.4everclean.com

whats up with that?

I have seen this happen and sometimes the person has renewed the domain but using a 301 and i think the system gets mixed up. thats my take on the subject

I would imagine that the domain and hosting were both with godaddy and it somehow ended up that way because of some technicality on how it was setup but that is just my blind theory. I really can't say that my interest would go any further than that anyway. Maybe they are experimenting with keeping sites up that they have control of to drive auction value up? Or to entice the previous owner to re-buy it at an inflated price?
