Expired Domain question

I found a site expired, but it showed on waybackmachine to 2002.

I registered it, but when I check it says site is 0years and 0days old.

Is that ok, or is it meant to say the site is like 14yrs old still

Is it just showing as 0yrs ld because i bought it or how does it work?

As you mentioned it is a expired domain, so the age was reset since it expired in between.

So 0 years is the correct stats.
 
The site age is 0 years. But then it is how you see it and no one knows what Google thinks, so use it and see how useful it is.
 
Another question...

Is it pointless putting new content in (I can't rebuild it as it would be a business, however the name of the domain is not and I can put on new content that would be relevant to the domain name)
Would it be pointless buying an expired domain, with fresh content, but still relevant to what the domain was all about. It would help me knowing if people do this instead of wasting my time instead of doing something else.
 
Since its age has been reset, you can put new content to suit your needs and rebrand it.

And what do I do with the backlinks from main sites to this one? obviously direct to the domain are there. but the inner pages which would relate to their company, should I create redirect or what? or will that keep the links/juice.
 
Feel free to use link juice keeper plugin to redirect them to the homepage.
 
301 redirect all important pages in terms of backlinks and link value (check in majestic and ahrefs) and then redirect them to the home page or other relevant pages using either .htacess or a plugin.

The whois age does not matter as it has got link value from the past backlinks. It is virtually impossible to neglect all backlinks for expired domains otherwise it would open up a big can of worms for Google.
 
Don't worry about the age, Use 404 to 301 plugin, and start working on that domain. If those links are good then you will see great results very soon.
 
The age look-up that you use tracks its latest registration.

This is exactly the kind of data you would find if you list your domain in Flippa.

This age just measures the time from registration. If you just register a dropped domain, it's going to show that.

However, depending on the domain look-up service you use, it can also mention when that domain was first originally registered.

That's not really going to help you all that much when it comes to selling your domain because domain buyers ALSO look at other factors.

While Google does pay attention to domain age, it's just one of 200 factors.
