I think expired domains give you faster results, but for this, you have to pay money and time both.
An expired domain with a high authority is pricey. You need to check the backlinks of the domain properly. Where they came from & why they came. Also, you need to see from the archives what the previous website was like on the domain.
But if you think about new branding, then you have to take a fresh domain.

Depends upon the quality of your chosen expired domains.
Some can help a lot, however most of them are equal to a brand new ones, some of them can even have some spam scores being carried from its past.

Before buying an expired domain, always check its history on Archive.org. If the domain was used for spam or something shady, it can hurt your SEO badly, even if you build quality backlinks later.
Personally, I recommend starting with a fresh domain unless the expired one has a clean history and real value. It saves you from a lot of future headaches, wasted time, and money.

Expired with decent backlinks usually gives a nice head start but gotta vet for spammy history

Expired domains gave faster results when they had clean, strong backlinks. But for long term growth and full control, Fresh domains worked better for me. Depends on your strategy.
