It'll work , just make sure that the domain does not have any historical issues or penalties to avoid any negative impact.

Consider one thing when your buy expired domains make sure it has existing backlinks from other websites because that helps to improve your site

It can work, expired domains with good metrics are always better than newly created domains without anything

I think it may or may not work since many people including myself hunt content on expired domains,let me say before even they expire so build same content but of high quality.It can be a hit or a miss.

if the history of content is good ( ever ranked ) better you restore the old one. dont waste your time to restore unquality content.

go for fresh and better quality content site is also good (keep it relevant).
