Expired Domain Advice

Guys i'm looking to buy an expired domain.
PR2 - decent DA/PA - nothing fancy. Link profile looks ok, about 1000 links from 250 domains / 200something ips.
The domain is really old, it got registered in 2007.
How can i find out if the domain is/was penalized by google?
I tried doing a search for site: domain.com and all the results i got were like: ww1.domain.com ww2.domain.com subdomain.domain.com sub1.domain.com - only subdomains...
Is this i a good thing or a bad thing?

If the subdomains are showing, I can't imagine that the domain is penalized, otherwise it wouldn't show... That's my assumption only, though, and someone might have a better answer for you.

Note too that if you're using the domain for a 301, it doesn't seem to matter if it's penalized, because the penalty only affects the ranking of that domain, rather than its ability to pass link juice.

use "info:domain.com" not "site:domain.com"

the site: search makes google search within that URL and that URL alone. even if it's deindexed google will go to that URL and retrieve results.



the info: search retrieves a single, most relevant thing google knows about that domain. if it will return the website itself it means it's indexed. otherwise it will return a d0f0ll0w backlink for that site or a place where that site was featured last.

cool, i actually didn't know about the trick with info:
i was only using site:

So i used info: on the domain i was planning to buy and no results.

Nice heads up on the "info" thing - I didn't know that either.

That's incorrect.

site: operator returns all the pages indexed within that domain, while info: returns results for a particular page only.

So if you have a website with 100 indexed pages, site: will return all 100 pages, and info: will return only that homepage.

If the site is deindexed, site: will return 0, google will not search for it.

Coming back to the op, the reason subdomains are showing and the main domain is not might be due to the fact that the main url was never used, only subdomains. Does not mean it's necessarily penalized.

It is easy to do many links on other ips by for example ScrapeBox and it could be shit.

PR means on today only this that before 02/2014 (february If I am not wrong = last PR update) domain was ok.

Check TrustFlow and Citation Flow at MajesticSeo and if this links are f0llow or n0follow

If domain get results on site:domain.com it should be ok. You can't check anything more.

From my experience, with (aged) expired domains, even if you dont find results on google with site: or info:, this doesnt necessarily mean that the domain has been penalized. The only real way to be sure that it has been penalized is to host something on it (even just a wordpress template) and then wait to see if it indexes, if it then doesnt appear on google with site: or info:, then its probably a dead domain.
