Expired Domain Acquisition

Hey BHW.

I have created a bot to scan and find expired domains.
Currently I have it crawling high DA sites and check all external domains whois information.
Using this method I have managed to aquire a few decent domains but I am finding most of the domains I am finding have been expired for many years which isn't ideal.

I also created another to check SSL certificate expiry on some public directories / lookups which again I am having mixed results with.

My question is what is the best way to catch a domain drop?
