Expired article is all clear, but nah?

Found an expired article, extremely well written.
Checked Grammarly and Copyscape, all good.
I start modifying it before publishing, there's a quote in it, I google it.
Find that full paragraphs are taken from some 1999 book that's somehow fully available on Google books.

What do I do? Should I kiss it goodbye or is passing Copyscape means it's good to go?

Try your luck with quetext and see if it hits green flag. If the content appears as if it stolen from a book, leave it.

If it's available in Google Books I would not use it unless you want to quote some parts for some specific purpose, but not to be the self-content.
Anyway you can always test this kind of things. Post it, index it, and check for a fragment to see how it ranks. I've ranked several posts with content copied from books that are already in Google Books from classic authors. But in my case I've always used public domain book content. You can have your site flagged by the book editors by DMCA infringements.

Thanks for the answer and sorry for the late reply. But isn't there a danger with copied content?
Like what are the consquences if I do try and Google ends up detecting it as copied?

The biggest danger is always the DMCA complaint, that essentially removes the content from the listings inmediately.
The drawback is related to content competence, essentially you can get out of the SERPS into a "obscure" section where all copied content pages live.
There is also another theoretical issue and the Mr. G algo may penalize your site hiddenly so it won't rank as good as if it was pure 100% original content. But this is only theoretical and the proofs are not huge.
