Expert Advice Need - WTF is going on!

Hi all, here is the story:

I decided to create a new site just to test my skills in SEO.

I took a long tail keyword with ">500" searches per month really low competition, i know that coz i already own another web site with exact same targeted keyword
in the first page. So i wanted to see if i can do it again.

I thought it will be better for faster indexing to get a domain with keyword and indexed pages in Google.

I found one, took it, setup the site, add it to webmaster tools google.

PROBLEM:
The site had already indexed pages and in the next day it already indexed my new homepage! I saw the new meta description in google.
I did rank, but in 10th PAGE. I created some (10) backlinks from my network the next day, facebook G+ and thats all. Now its been 15 days and i just keep drop, now im to the 13 page.

After checking the webmaster tools to see what what keywords i was ranking for, i saw this really interesting part :

  1. In the first day i created the site i already RANKED #1 for a keyword that was in my niche but way way way more competitive.
  2. That was 35 Impressions then BAM 0!
  3. Very competitive keyword Avg.position #1
  4. Very competitive keyword 2 Avg.position #3

Now (15 days after) for any of those the keywords including my targeted phrase i rank in 13 Page and over.
Please before i give you one more clue (i dont want to influence your opinion), id like to get your opinion on what you think is going on.

Ok here you go . I sniff some short of penalty. So i run traffic travis and found 500 backlinks, then i run seo spyglass and found 45 backlinks.
I just checked the 45 and they are all custom backlinks from the previous domain owner and look clean! Im not sure about the other 500. But then why the first day this #1 position. If penalty it wouldn't rank #1 from the first day.
 
It was expired domain but with indexed pages in google.
So is this a new domain in google eyes or old?

Happens usually, google always give you a chance, but you have to be careful when you have got the opportunity. Mostly happens for the new site, happened to me too. Usually it happens to micro niche sites, it comes to the top of the google without any seo and all of sudden it drops without a clue.
 
seems like a penalty ... maybe a manual viewing od you page and they did not like it ?
 
Could u view the rest of the 500 backlinks? see if they are clean enough for a 'tier 1'?

True, It must be a penalty. Just check all the backlinks you have got and also check your pages at webmaster tools.
 
Guys you dont get it?
IT CANT be penalty coz of the backlinks i added. i added not 10 but 8 backlinks with in 10 days! I cant get penalty for this!!!
Nether from the previewsly owner! coz if i had penalty from the previously owner, google wouldent remove the penalty for 1 day and then
back to penalty again!

If your content is new or as I say Now and Wow Google can put you at the top for a short stay. Then it's up to you shore up that spot with links and traffic otherwise you sink or as we used to say you get to do the Google dance.
 
I don't get why this is a mystery lol

The previous site owner was ranking #1 for that keyword, so when you put the domain back up, Google thought it was the same site (at least temporarily)

But you said you uploaded your own homepage, so Google comes back and realizes the page is not the same, and you lose the rankings. (site is not the same any more)

On top of that you could have been hit by an algorithm update, as there have been tons of changes ever since Penguin 2.0 rolled out at the end of May.

Also you had #1 spot, even though the word was "competitive", it only yielded 35 impressions, which means there's no search volume so who cares.

Case solved.
 
To add to the above. Have you 301'd all those indexed pages or is there several thousand dead links indexed on google for your site ? That would be a big G slap.
 
well i dont know how long time it took for those 35 impresions, could be a day MAX, maybe a few minutes
301 omg, i did BS there. There was 9 indexed pages, I request removal, expect the homepage. Homepage i kept my niche keyword that i was targeting and the previews owner as well.

So you guys think is more like a :

1. Penalty?
2. Sandbox?
3. Nothing unnormal?
4. Bad Domain choice?
5. Something else?

I agree. This is exactly i wanted to say in my above post. Go and check your webmaster tools OP.
 
You can import links into SEO Spyglass (via CSV) and analyze them there, you know.

Just for the statistics and the justification of some people here id like to keep you informed.
Today the site jumped from #190 to #86
