Experiencing STRANGE page ranking

So after lots of backlinks, I manage to get a site (which used to be on page 18) to be on first page for a certain keyword. My site was on position 6 about 5-days ago when I did a search for that term.

Yesterday, I did a search on that term again and all the websites (including my competitors) were in chaos! My ranking became position 14 (page 2) and all the top competitors got pushed to position 7+.

Then I just did a search again and everything is back to normal - i'm back on position 6.

Why would Google de-index quality articles from sites like ezinearticles? Huge and established sites.

I just got 400 quality links to an article 2 days ago and it kept moving up rankings but now its de-indexed. Will I need to get more links to get it indexed again since it is de-indexed?

You prob got it deindexed because you put up 400 links in a really short time. You have to spread it out over time. Think like a real user - if a new article comes out 5 min ago, there is no way it can get backlinked from 20,30 or even 50 places - word does not spread that fast.

try just social bookmarking it the first day, then do nothing. Three days later, add a few more links to it, as time goes on you can build the amount per day. Kind of a pain, but that keeps it from getting deindexed.

It really depends on what you want the article for - if its short term juice to a money site you dont care about (launch etc) then blast away. If its designed for a long term money maker site, you need to take it slower.

Often the article will come back after time if you keep building links to it slowly and naturally. Another way to get it re-indexed is take the exact text and post it on another site (dont go crazy, just 3-4 other places that have good rep) and from those reposts, link to the original. That works sometimes if you back off the linking to the main ezine in the meantime. Then get some links to those other sites, but just a few. Check in a few weeks to see if the ezine is back.
