I've recently been looking into building my own Private Blog Network for ranking purposes. I'm wondering is there anybody here who's built their own PBN or are in the process of building one?

Can anybody give me an estimate of the cost that goes into building these things?

Anything I should know before getting started? I'd appreciate the help.

It all depends how big of a network you want to create.

With $2,500 you can create a strong network for personal use.

How many sites would a typical network consist of costing $2.5K?

Depends of site PR, backlinking history, hosting per month, dedicated IPs, whois protected.

You can have maybe up to 10 strong sites.

Thanks for the help. If anybody has anything else to add about building a PBN I'd love to hear it.
 
I have some experience in building a network, a small one though, costing around $5k for 15 quality pr3+ blogs.
 
For a solid PBN that sounds about right.

Assuming you are starting from scratch and will do none of the work yourself, different ips for hosting $50 each per year. Whois protection $10 a year each. Domain purchase price plus one year registration another $10 per year each (not including domain purchase price). Theme plus 10 unique articles another $70 each. Careful linkbuilding $100 each to start. You can always cut some corners and use cheaper services but I am very conservative when it comes to my tier1 buffer sites. Not as muck on tier2 and 3.

If you are in one niche then you don't need to build a large blog network. Just build a few really solid ones! Here is a full guide on building your own Blog network.

Ive seen sites rank number 1 on the basis of 1 or 2 very strong PBN blogs, build tons of links, add a load of content, build up the metrics and you will be in a strong position

That's an awesome resource, thanks for enlightening me! I'm thinking of obtaining 3 good domains and building those centered around my money site, in the hope that that will be enough power to rank my site.

Also, what's your opinion on building the PBN and using SEO services from the BST to bring authority to the PBN?
 
Don't use any SEO services. Buy domains which already have enough of backlinks from trusted sites and add some backlinks from Web 2.0.

So aside from the PBN, I should also build a Web 2.0 network to solidify the main network?

Yes, buy 3 expired domains that already have good metrics. I would also suggest using services to build some niche related links to your PBN too, because the chances are, the expired domains that you purchase will not have any backlinks related to your niche. Obviously you will add content that is niche related, so you will probably see a drop in domain authority and pr, don't worry though, use a service to build links around your niche and your metrics will improve again. I did exactly this a few weeks ago. The site used to be about a wolf association. I changed it to a travel blog. DA and PA dropped. I blasted it with 'travel' backlinks and the DA and PA improved again!

Use a few services to really boost your metrics!! because we dont care about rankings for a PBN

Just one or two links to each site in the network. Later if everything will be ok you'll figure how to add new backlinks to your sites. If your sites are good enough you may leave them alone without any new backlinks at all. They will lose a point or two of PR though.
 
The main upfront cost would be the cost of the expired domains. A PR3 would cost around $50, PR4 - $100, PR5 - $200. I would suggest a mix of all PRs.

Yearly domain and hosting costs (one site per VPS) - $30.

So as an example, a blog network of 40 domains 25 PR3, 10 PR4 and 5 PR5 would have a one time = 1,250 + 1,000 + 1,000 = $3,250 and a yearly domain + hosting cost = $1,200

This is exactly what I had in mind. Buy a simple $150 link building service to solidify each site on the PBN. Thanks for the clarity as I now know you've had success doing this.

I'm not going extreme with this. I'm just looking to rank 2 money sites that are in the same niche, so I'll be good with maybe 3-5 solid sites for the beginning of my PBN.

I know it is time consuming but I think it is worthwile in the longrun.

That is what I am planning on doing and I already have 5 domains, just need some more planning.

I think it defeats the point of a PBN as they're mostly used to acquire link juice FAST. However it's a great long term strategy.
 
One last question, and I'll be good to go. When buying the domain, would it be detrimental in anyway to buy one like 'SundayRunners.com' when I'm using it to rank, say... 'Fishing Rods'?
 
Hi Spookcash, I would more likely help you in building PBN in-case you are up for paying a good cash for handing me over the blueprint.
You would be able to create a PBN of 50 websites on different IPs, with whois protection either with new domains or with the expired high PR and PA/DA domains. Batch of this PBN 50 websites would cost $1k-1.2k, which is pretty cost effective.
